The turn-of-century house from 1908 stands on one of the quiet streets in eastern Limhamn, with a carefully kept lawn of 620 square metres around it. Original stone paving in Skåne grey runs between the grass, a path to the veranda and a south-west patio. The owners wanted to hand over the recurring care while keeping the well-tended look.
Walking the garden we noted a mature lawn with a strong root system, light moss in the shade under a large beech, Fagus sylvatica, and worn edges where the grass had run out over the stone paving. The soil below is humus-rich moraine clay, typical of eastern Limhamn, which builds a tough, dense sward if mown at the right rhythm.
We set a plan with mowing every two weeks from April to October, height 4 centimetres in peak season and 5 centimetres through the July heat to spare the roots. Edging against the stone paving is done at every visit with a strimmer and a separate edger, so the stone line stays crisp. Clippings are mulched straight back into the lawn as natural fertiliser.
Once a season, in April, we scarify the lawn in the shaded sections under the beech and top dress with fine sand and lime to keep moss at bay. The RUT deduction covers 50 percent of the labour, which keeps recurring lawn mowing in Limhamn within economic reach even for larger villa plots.
