Hedge Trimming in Skåne

A well-trimmed hedge is the sharpest line in your garden, and one of the services where the difference between amateur and professional is most visible. We trim hedges for homes, row houses, housing associations, and businesses across all of southwest Skåne, with the right technique and timing for each hedge type. Two trims per season is usually enough to keep the shape sharp and the base dense.

Hedge types we work with

Different hedges have different needs. We have experience with:

  • Thuja (Thuja occidentalis 'Smaragd' and 'Brabant'). Skåne's most common privacy hedge. Usually trimmed once per season, in August. Doesn't tolerate cutting back into old wood, so we work carefully to avoid bare patches.
  • Privet. Fast growth, benefits from two trims (June + August). Tolerates heavy cutbacks when needed.
  • Beech and hornbeam. Classic ornamental hedges. Trimmed in July-August to keep the brown-bronze winter foliage handsome. Tolerates gentle rejuvenation.
  • Yew (Taxus baccata). Slow, formable, tolerates even hard cutting on old wood. Trimmed once per season, ideally in June.
  • Boxwood. Formal hedge and edging. Trimmed once or twice, carefully and with clean tools (we sterilize between properties to counter box blight).
  • Currant, whitebeam, cherry laurel, hawthorn. Less common but encountered. We have the experience and adjust technique accordingly.

What's included in a hedge trim

  • Trimming of top and both sides with battery- or petrol-powered hedge shears (chosen based on noise constraints and power access).
  • Adaptation to desired shape: flat top, rounded top, trapezoid, or freeform. We recommend trapezoid for base light access.
  • Careful handling near facades, fences, downpipes, and driveways. Hedges often grow against delicate surfaces that don't tolerate scuffing.
  • Raking and collection of all clipping material. Nothing left on the lawn or in the beds.
  • Hauling to recycling center, no extra charge.
  • Visual health check of the hedge. Signs of root rot, pests, or dry foliage noted and reported.

Safety at height

Hedges over 2 meters require more than just shears. We use:

  • Stepladders with stabilizing feet
  • Mobile work platforms for tall, straight trims
  • Personal fall-arrest harness when working above 2 m without a platform
  • Cordoning off paths and driveways during work with falling-branch risk

We are registered for F-tax. In the event of any issue, the customer relationship is handled directly and responsibly.

Rejuvenation trimming: when the hedge is skewed or sparse at the base

A common question: "My hedge looks good on top but bare at the bottom, can it be saved?" Usually yes. With a planned rejuvenation over 1-2 seasons:

  • Step 1 (season 1): We taper the sides and give the hedge a pronounced trapezoid shape (wider at the base, narrower at the top). This lets light reach the base shoots.
  • Step 2 (season 2): We trim the top shorter than usual so the entire hedge has time to fill out on the sides.
  • Step 3 (ongoing): Once the shape is restored, we maintain it with two trims per season.

Beech, hornbeam, privet, and yew handle this kind of recovery well. Thuja is more sensitive. For thuja it's often better to live with the existing shape or replace individual plants.

50% RUT deduction: half the price directly on the invoice

Hedge trimming on your own property is fully RUT-eligible:

  • 50% off labor cost, applied directly on the invoice
  • Max 75,000 SEK per person per year (150,000 SEK per couple)
  • We handle reporting to the Swedish Tax Agency

The RUT deduction halves the labor cost directly on the invoice, making professional hedge trimming substantially more accessible. More on our RUT page.

Frequently asked questions

Short, honest answers to what we get asked every week. If yours is not here, just call, we are happy to help.

  1. 01When is the best time to trim a hedge?
For most deciduous hedges (privet, beech, hornbeam, currant), early summer (June) and late summer (last week of August) is optimal. Thuja is usually trimmed once in August. Yew and boxwood prefer light shaping in June. We plan the visit based on your variety and current shape.
  2. 02How much does hedge trimming cost?
Price depends on length, height, and how vigorous the growth has been since the last trim. The cost is reduced by 50% through the RUT deduction on labor costs, which is applied directly on the invoice. We always provide a fixed quote after inspection.
  3. 03Do you remove the clippings?
Yes, removal is always included in the price. We rake up, collect, and haul all clipping material to the recycling center. Your lot is left tidy. You shouldn't need to lift a rake after us.
  4. 04Can you trim tall hedges and privacy screens over 3 meters?
Yes. We use ladders, platforms, and fall-arrest harness for safe work up to approximately 4 m without scaffolding. For hedges over 4 m or particularly hard-to-reach spots (against roofs, steep slopes) we add a lift, quoted separately.
  5. 05What if my hedge has gone skewed or boxy at the bottom?
We almost always recommend a rejuvenation trim over 1-2 seasons. The hedge is trimmed slightly more aggressively on the sides and shaped into a trapezoid (wider at the bottom, narrower at the top). This brings light to the base shoots and fills empty patches. We go through the strategy together before starting.
  6. 06Do you also trim for HOAs and businesses?
Yes, we have framework contracts with several housing associations and companies in Skåne. For HOAs we offer package pricing where all common hedges are trimmed twice per season, with a single invoice to the board and the option for add-on orders (plantings, leaf raking) under the same contract.
