Gutter cleaning from a platform at a villa, safe work at height

Gutter cleaning in Skåne

Gutters that go uncleaned become a problem sooner or later. Leaves, needles, moss and debris build up a plug, water overflows the edge instead of going down the downspout, and eventually you are standing there with moisture damage on the facade, a flooded basement or ice plugs that have burst the gutters over winter. NordVerk offers professional gutter and downspout cleaning for homes across southwest Skåne. We arrive with ladders, a platform and the right equipment, clean everything by hand, flush the downspouts, and leave a simple report afterwards.

What a gutter cleaning includes

Every visit is a complete treatment of the entire gutter system:

  • Gutter cleaning of leaves, needles, moss, twigs and everything else that has collected. We clean by hand, not with a machine, to avoid damaging gutters or compacting the debris further.
  • Downspout flushing with water to ensure free flow all the way down to ground level or the stormwater drain.
  • Water flow check through the entire system, we pour water into the gutter and verify it runs the right way without leaks at joints.
  • Inspection of brackets, slope and connections, we note loose brackets, incorrect slope, leaking joints and any rust damage.
  • Simple report after the cleaning with photos of any observations and recommendations.
  • Removal of all debris, we leave no leaf piles on the property or on the lawn.

Different types of gutters and downspouts

Not all gutter systems are the same. We work with:

  • Galvanised sheet metal, most common on older villas. Durable but can rust at joints after 30 to 40 years. We pay particular attention to seams and joints.
  • Plastic (PVC), common on newer houses and after renovations. Easier to clean but can become brittle over time, especially in sun-exposed positions.
  • Zinc and copper, higher-end materials on older properties and architect-designed villas. Requires extra careful cleaning to avoid scratching the surface.
  • Built-in gutters, common on flat roofs and modern architecture. Harder to access but we have tools for the purpose.
  • Downspouts with leaf guards, a simple grate insert that prevents leaves from entering the downspout. We clean or replace these where needed.

You do not need to know what type you have, we assess it at the inspection.

When to clean gutters

Timing matters to remove the right things at the right moment:

  • Autumn (October to November): The most important cleaning. All leaves have fallen and the gutters should be clear ahead of winter rain and snow. This is our peak season, book in September if you can.
  • Spring (April): An extra clean for homes with many trees nearby. Pollen, seeds and blossom from spring can clog a system that was clean in November. Especially important if you have pine or birch near the house.
  • Summer (June to August): Rarely needed if autumn and spring cleans are done, but after heavy summer storms branches and leaves can end up in the gutters.
  • Winter: We do not clean gutters in winter if there is ice in the system, the risk of damaging gutters and downspouts is too high.

Signs your gutters need cleaning

You do not need to climb onto the roof to tell. Here are the signs we ask customers to look for:

  • Water overflowing the gutter edge during rain, often visible as a damp streak on the facade below the gutter.
  • Plants growing out of the gutter, grass and weeds thrive in still, wet leaf compost.
  • Downspouts with no water coming out during rain, there is likely a blockage somewhere in the pipe.
  • Ice plugs or icicles at the downspout opening in winter, standing water that has frozen.

See any of these? Get in touch and we will come and take a look.

One visit: gutters plus roof and facade

Many customers combine gutter cleaning with other services in the same visit:

  • Gutter cleaning + facade cleaning, it makes sense to do both while we have the ladder and platform up.
  • Gutter cleaning + roof cleaning, especially for villas with concrete tiles where moss comes loose and ends up in the gutters.

50% RUT deduction, how it works

Gutter cleaning on your own home is fully RUT-eligible:

  • 50% tax reduction on labour costs deducted directly on the invoice
  • Max 75,000 SEK per person per year (150,000 SEK for a couple in the same household)
  • We handle all reporting to the Swedish Tax Agency, you do not need to do anything

Gutter cleaning is pure labour cost, no material costs are normally involved, so the entire invoice is covered by RUT. Read more on our RUT page.

Frequently asked questions

Short, honest answers to what we get asked every week. If yours is not here, just call, we are happy to help.

  1. 01How often should gutters be cleaned?
Gutters should be cleaned at least once a year, ideally in autumn after the leaves have fallen. Homes with large deciduous trees nearby may need cleaning both spring and autumn. Regular cleaning prevents overflows, moisture damage and ice plugs in winter. At the free inspection we give an individual recommendation for your specific property.
  2. 02How is the cleaning done?
We use ladders and platforms to safely access all gutters and downspouts. We remove leaves, needles, moss and other debris by hand, then flush the downspouts to ensure free flow, and do a simple inspection of gutters, brackets and connections. All debris is taken away for disposal, no leaf piles left on the property.
  3. 03Is gutter cleaning RUT-eligible?
Yes, gutter cleaning on your own home is covered by the RUT deduction. You receive a 50% tax reduction on labour costs directly on the invoice. We are F-tax registered and handle all reporting to the Swedish Tax Agency. The maximum is 75,000 SEK per person per year.
  4. 04Can you also fix problems with the gutters?
During the inspection we note any issues such as loose brackets, incorrect slope, leaking joints or rust damage. Simple adjustments like tightening brackets or sealing a joint are often done on site at no extra cost. For larger repairs such as replacing gutter sections or re-laying the slope we provide a separate quote.
  5. 05What happens if gutters are not cleaned?
Clogged gutters cause water to overflow the edge instead of going down the downspout. This can lead to moisture damage on the facade and foundation, basement flooding, and ice plugs in winter when standing water freezes and bursts gutters and downspouts. Regular cleaning is a simple insurance against costly water damage.
  6. 06Which areas in Skåne do you cover for gutter cleaning?
We cover all of southwest Skåne, from Falsterbo in the south to Båstad in the north. Most active in Lund (Professorsstaden, Östra Torn), Malmö (Limhamn, Bellevue, Djupadal, Bunkeflostrand), Lomma municipality (Lomma, Bjärred), Vellinge municipality (Vellinge, Höllviken, Skanör, Falsterbo), Staffanstorp, Bara, Svedala and Helsingborg (Laröd).
