Tree Pruning in Skåne

Right pruning at the right time makes trees live longer, bear more fruit, grow safer, and hold their form. Wrong pruning, or wrong timing, can damage the tree or invite disease. We prune fruit trees, ornamental trees, and bushes across all of southwest Skåne, with experience in both old home gardens with mature apple trees and newer areas with young ornamentals to shape for the future.

What we do

Fruit tree pruning

The most common assignment. We prune:

  • Apple. JAS period (July-September). Thinning for air and light, targeted cuts against water sprouts, rejuvenation of older trees. Yields more fruit and a healthier branch structure.
  • Pear. Same timing and technique as apple. Pear also tolerates winter pruning but pear rust risk is lower during JAS.
  • Plum. Summer pruning (June-July), never during winter (silver leaf risk).
  • Cherry. Summer pruning, ideally right after harvest.
  • Sour cherry, damson, quince. Varies; we plan individually.

Ornamental tree pruning

  • Magnolia, ornamental cherry, Japanese cherry. Gentle shaping after bloom.
  • Hornbeam, beech, linden. Can be shaped to columnar or canopy form with annual trimming.
  • Birch, oak, hawthorn, sycamore. Thinning and safety pruning, not hard shaping.
  • Thujas and yews (as standalone trees). Gentle top and side pruning as needed.

Safety pruning

Trees that overhang roofs, roads, playgrounds, or neighbor properties need checking. We remove:

  • Dead or hanging branches (risk branches)
  • Branches scraping against roofs or gutters
  • Branches blocking sight lines or lighting
  • Branches grown into power lines or fences

In urgent risk (after a storm or damage) we prioritize rapid dispatch. Contract customers come first.

Rejuvenation pruning of older trees

Old apple trees that haven't been pruned for 10+ years often yield very little fruit and have heavy water sprouts. With a planned rejuvenation over 2-3 seasons you can restore both fruit yield and health:

  • Season 1: Crown thinning. We open up for light and air, remove the worst water sprouts.
  • Season 2: Targeted rejuvenation. New fruiting branches are established.
  • Season 3: Maintenance pruning. Now we hold the tree in good form with an annual intervention.

We never take more than 25% of the crown at once. More than that stresses the tree and invites disease.

Safety and equipment

We have our own equipment for work up to 8-9 meters height:

  • Mobile work platforms for tall cuts
  • Fall-arrest harnesses and ropes for climbing in the crown when the platform doesn't reach
  • Area cordoning under falling branches
  • Chainsaw, secateurs, sawblocks, and pole pruners, all maintained and sharp

For trees over 10 m or with complex risk situations (near power lines, houses, streets) we partner with certified arborists. We then make a joint assessment and quote together.

We are registered for F-tax, so there is no risk for you as the customer of taking an employer role.

Timing: why it matters

Pruning at the wrong time of year is one of the most common mistakes:

  • Stone fruit (plum, cherry) in winter → risk of silver leaf, a serious fungal disease
  • Winter pruning of apple/pear in hard-cut form → vigorous regrowth of water sprouts, counterproductive
  • Pruning magnolia in fall → weak bloom the following year
  • Hard pruning of beech or hornbeam mid-summer → sunburn on exposed branches

We plan the visit by species and season, not by what happens to be convenient. This is why season contracts work well: we prioritize the right intervention at the right time without you needing to track it.

50% RUT deduction on tree pruning

Pruning of trees and bushes on your property is fully RUT-eligible:

  • 50% off labor cost, directly on the invoice
  • Max 75,000 SEK per person per year (150,000 SEK per couple)
  • We handle reporting to the Swedish Tax Agency

Tree felling is also RUT-eligible provided it's done by a RUT-registered company on a private property. Hauling of felled material counts as transport and can in some cases be RUT-eligible. We go through it in the quote. More on the RUT page.

Frequently asked questions

Short, honest answers to what we get asked every week. If yours is not here, just call, we are happy to help.

  1. 01When should I prune my fruit trees?
The JAS period (July-September) is optimal for apple and pear. Wound healing is rapid and the risk of diseases like silver leaf is low. Plum, cherry, and other stone fruits prefer summer pruning when the foliage is active. Winter pruning works for very large interventions but is more risky from a disease standpoint. We plan the visit by species and condition.
  2. 02Is tree pruning RUT-eligible?
Yes, pruning of trees and bushes on your property is fully RUT-eligible: 50% off labor cost directly on the invoice, up to 75,000 SEK per person per year. Tree felling is also RUT-eligible under certain conditions. Planting new trees isn't RUT-eligible. Only work on existing trees qualifies.
  3. 03Do you remove branches and clippings after pruning?
Yes, removal is always included in the price. We chip smaller branches on site as needed and haul all material to the recycling center. Larger felled trees can be cut into firewood and stacked at your place on request.
  4. 04What does tree pruning cost?
Price varies with tree size, height, location, and time since the last pruning. The cost is reduced by 50% through the RUT deduction on labor costs, which is applied directly on the invoice. We always do a free inspection and provide a fixed quote before starting.
  5. 05Can you prune very tall trees over 10 meters?
For pruning of trees over 10 m or where safety risk exists (against roofs, power lines, the street) we partner with certified arborists. We then assess together and quote jointly. For medium-tall trees (up to 8-9 m) we handle it ourselves with platform and fall arrest.
  6. 06What's the difference between pruning, shape trimming, and felling?
Pruning is targeted cuts to shape, rejuvenate, or secure the tree. The branch structure is preserved. Shape trimming is repeated cutting of ornamentals (hornbeam, yew) for a specific geometry. Felling is taking the tree down entirely. We do all three, but pruning is most common and what we recommend first.
